Detectives from the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Division arrested a Key Largo man Thursday after finding a grow operation in his apartment.
Detectives received information there was an indoor marijuana grow operation in an apartment at the 100.8 mile marker in Key Largo. At 10 a.m., they went to the apartment and knocked on the door. When the resident, 23 year old Alan Murgas, answered the detectives immediately smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside.
The confronted Murgas with the information they had, and the odor and he admitted he was growing marijuana for his personal use. A search of the residence revealed 15 marijuana plants, 17 grams of loose marijuana, 5 Oxycodone pills and 2 Hydrocodone pills. Murgas did not have a prescription for either medication. Detectives also seized grow lights, fertilizer, an air filtration system, and a scale.
Murgas was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The plants were valued at $15,000.00. Murgas was booked at the Plantation Key Jail.
