County officers take 65 year old Jose Aristizabal into custody
for sexually assaulting a young girl in 2009.
Marathon – Sheriff’s detectives from the Crimes Against Women and Children’s Unit charged a man with multiple counts of sexual assault on a young girl Monday.
Detectives traveled to Palm Beach Gardens where police there assisted them with taking 65 year old Jose Aristizabal into custody. He is charged with a total of nine felony counts related to the sexual assault of a 12 year old girl. The crime took place in May of 2009 while the young victim was staying with her family at Hawk’s Cay, on Duck Key.
The girl, who is now 14, told her mother about the crimes recently and they then reported it to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives from that agency contacted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on April 8th, and the two agencies worked the case together. Detective Deborah Ryan was the lead Monroe County investigator.
Aristizabal is charged with four counts each of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation and Sexual Battery; he is also charged with one count of lewd and Lascivious Exhibition.
Because he is Columbian by birth, detectives asked the court to seize his passport so he cannot flee the United States. The warrant carries a total bond of $550,000.00.
He will be returned to Monroe County to face those charges.
