Stock Island – A female inmate died at the Stock Island jail Saturday of apparent natural causes.
52 year old Aracelia Miranda was in jail after being arrested February 3rd by Key West Police for possessing drug paraphernalia. She was in the facility’s sick bay on and off since her arrest for various medical issues. At 3 p.m. on Saturday, the on duty sick bay deputy and nurse noticed Miranda was lying very still in her cell. She didn’t respond when they spoke to her. When then entered the cell, they found she was not breathing. The officer called for help and they began performing CPR. As they waited for paramedics to arrive at the jail, they continued CPR and utilized an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in an attempt to revive her without success.
Miranda was taken to Lower Keys Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of her death.
