Farmer Jeanne goes to the Everglades

Animal Farm Supervisor Jeanne Selander made a trip, recently to the Everglades with Dr. Doug Mader. She visited the Everglades Alligator Farm and Everglades Outpost with Gator Bob and Chris Gillette of the “Gator Boys” television show; took an airboat tour of the area around Turkey Point with famed Crocodile Biologist Joe Wasilewski and got to participate in the tagging and releasing of baby Crocodiles. While there, she traded one of the Farm’s large alligators for a smaller one which will be better for display at the farm and when she attends community events. Top, the baby alligator for the farm; middle, Jeanne petting an endangered Florida Panther cub. Bottom, Gator Bob takes the bigger alligator in trade from Farmer Jeanne.

The Animal Farm is open to the public this Sunday from 1 - 3 p.m. It is located underneath the Sheriff's Office Detention Center, off of College Road on Stock Island. It is free of charge; donations are welcome. All donations are used toward the upkeep and feeding of the animals.
