A 46 year old man from Miami is in jail today charged with
communicating in an obscene manner with someone he thought was a 14 year old
girl on line.
In March, Major Crimes Detective Dan Mehler worked on an
operation with the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force
(ICAC) to target adults using the internet to contact, communicate and meet up
with children. During the course of the operation, one of the task force
detectives was “chatting” on line, posing as a 14 year old girl.
46 year old Alberto Hernandez made contact with the “girl”,
and had a conversation with her on his web camera. Their conversations
continued on later dates, with Hernandez getting more sexually explicit as
their conversations progressed. At one point, he proposed coming to Monroe
County to meet with the girl.
Subsequent investigations revealed his home address. His
identity was confirmed as the same person who communicated obscenely with
someone he thought was a 14 year old girl. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Monday, Hernandez turned himself in to the Monroe County jail. He was
charged with using a computer to seduce and lure a child. His bond is set at
$75,000.00.
