Stabbing suspect in custody

The man who stabbed a woman in the chest late Tuesday is in custody after turning himself in.

Detective Yunier Galvez said 33 year old Alexander  Flores of Islamorada flagged down an officer in Miami-Dade County and said he wanted to turn himself in for a crime he committed in Monroe County. Detectives from Monroe County drove to Miami and picked him up.

Flores admitted to stabbing the 33 year old victim. He said they used to date each other and broke up about a month ago. He said he became angry when he learned she was seeing someone else. He said he got drunk, broke in the house and attacked the victim.

Flores was charged with aggravated battery, burglary, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Monroe County jail.

As of this morning, the victim was in stable condition in a Miami hospital where she was airlifted for treatment of her injuries.
