Traffic stop results in drug arrest

Key Largo – A traffic stop by the Florida Highway Patrol for speeding in the Upper Keys early this morning resulted in an arrest for a large amount of marijuana.

FHP Trooper Arias stopped the silver Nissan sport utility vehicle at the 108 mile marker of the highway at 2 a.m. after he measured it’s speed at 68 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. He called for a back up officer after he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. Deputy Pedro Garcia responded to the call.

When the officers confronted the driver, 61 year old Igor Pilecki of Lutz, Florida, he admitted to possessing marijuana. He handed over a marijuana cigarette he had in his pocket, and a bag which was found to contain 339 grams of the illegal substance.

Pilecki was charged with possession of a felony amount of marijuana and he was booked into jail.
