Woman missing from Pennsylvania since 2002 found in the Keys

Key Largo – A 53 year old woman who has been missing from Pennsylvania since February of 2002 was recovered in the Florida Keys this week after she turned herself in to a Sheriff’s deputy on Friday.

Brenda Heist turned herself in to Deputy Jacques Rozek at 4:30 p.m., telling him she thought she might be wanted in Pinellas County. A check on her name revealed her status as “missing and possibly deceased” from Lititz, Pennsylvania.

According to a detective from Pennsylvania who worked the case, she and her husband were divorcing. She dropped her kids off at school and was never seen again. Her car was found abandoned just days later with no signs of a struggle.

Authorities in Pennsylvania were notified of her recovery. She is currently in protective custody in the Keys, but not in the custody of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

No further information about her current status can be released due to Florida laws that prohibit such information from being released to the public.
