Two rescued from water after jumping from bridge

Two men who jumped from the Vaca Cut Bridge at 2:15 a.m. today were rescued by Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputy Wilfredo Guerra.

19 year old John Gelnaw and 20 year old Alec Ferguson of Ormond Beach jumped from the bridge for unknown reasons. Another man who was in the area called the Sheriff’s Office and said he could hear them yelling for help as they floated with the current out toward the bayside.

Deputy Wilfredo Guerra responded on his vessel and, after the two were in the water for about an hour, he was able to locate them and pull them onto his boat.

The two were checked out by rescue units and were uninjured by their escapade.
