Trusted neighbor charged with stealing, using woman’s credit cards

Tavernier – A Tavernier woman told detectives a trusted neighbor stole her credit cards and used them to withdraw $3,000 from her bank account without her permission.

Detective Bob Dosh was assigned to investigate. His investigation showed 35 year old Valerie Crespo was a neighbor of the victim. The victim gave Crespo a key to her home and would often stay there when the victim was not home. According to the victim, Crespo took the two credit cards from her wallet one night as she slept.

Detective Dosh found that Crespo used the credit card 17 times at various automated teller machines to withdraw a total of $3,000 from the victim’s bank accounts.

The detective confronted Crespo and she admitted to taking the money. She claimed the victim gave her permission to take the money from her accounts.

Crespo was arrested Wednesday and charged with grand theft and 17 counts fraudulent use of a credit card. She was booked into jail.
