Man arrested for making false 911 report

Key Largo – A Key Largo man who falsely reported a burglary at his home was arrested Thursday.

Dispatchers received a call from 40 year old Shane Earp that his home on Bowen Drive was being burglarized by an unknown person. He told dispatchers he’d received an anonymous call about the break-in, and wasn’t home at the time.

When Deputy E.B. Askins and Sgt. Susan Keene arrived, they found the front door open. They found a woman inside who turned out to be Earp’s girlfriend. A short time later, Earp showed up as well.

Earp told the officers he’d called in the burglary because he had broken up with his girlfriend the  night before and didn’t want her to damage his property in the house. Investigations revealed Earp and the girlfriend had both been living in the house, and she had every legal right to be there, whether he was there or not.

Earp was arrested and charged with misuse of the 911 system and he was booked into jail.
