Arrest for drugs, gun; cash and vehicle seized

A traffic stop Tuesday night led to the arrest of a Key Largo man who had marijuana and a gun in his car. A large amount of cash was seized, along with the vehicle he was driving.

Deputy Vaughn O’Keefe was at the 96 mile marker at 9:40 p.m. when he spotted a white Ford Mustang traveling at a high rate of speed northbound. He used his radar to measure the vehicle’s speed at 73 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone.

He followed the car, watching it weave in and out of traffic, increasing its speed. He pulled the car over at the 98 mile marker, identifying the driver as 22 year old Antoine Freeman of Key Largo. Freeman had a female passenger in the car with him identified as 23 year old Dieunphere Delcy of Marathon.

The smell of marijuana could be detected through the open windows of the car, and there were pieces of what appeared to be marijuana on the seats and center console. A search of the vehicle turned up more of it in the center console. A gun was found under the driver’s seat - a loaded .40 caliber Smith and Wesson.

A large amount of cash - $4,820.00 – was found in the wallet of the passenger. It was seized as possible drug proceeds. The vehicle was also seized for possible forfeiture.

Freeman was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and possession of marijuana. Delcy was charged with possession of marijuana. Both were booked into jail.
