Layton man charged with threats, firing weapon

A Layton man is in jail, charged with pointing a laser at some fishermen, then firing a shotgun to scare them.

Deputies responded to the vicinity of the Sea Bird Marina to reports of shots fired just before 2 a.m. this morning. Several men in two boats who were bully netting near the marina said someone had pointed a laser at them, then fired a gun several times. They fled the area because they were afraid they would be shot.

Deputy Jean Gonzalez responded to the marina and spoke with marina owner 45 year old  Antonio Papp who lives in an apartment at that location. Papp said he was “patrolling” the marina and saw two boats approaching. He said first he used a laser pen, pointing it at the men on the boats in an attempt to scare them away. When that didn’t work, he said he fired his shotgun into the air to scare them away.

Papp was arrested. He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of pointing a laser light at someone driving a motor vehicle and discharging a firearm in public. He was booked into jail.
