A suspect who fired a gun at deputies this afternoon was shot and killed at a home in Islamorada.

Deputies responded to a shots fired call just before 1 p.m. at 118 Bayview Isles Drive in the Venetian Shores Subdivision of Islamorada. When they arrived, a witness on the scene told them the suspect, 73 year old Robert Parlette, Jr., was behind the house with a gun.

The officers walked behind the house. Parlette fired at them. They fired back, hitting him in the chest. He was transported to Mariner’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be the lead investigating agency. This is standard procedure for an officer involved shooting.

Any further information will be released by the FDLE.
