Traffic stop yields drugs; driver arrested

A Miami man was charged with possessing multiple types of drugs after he was stopped for excessive speed in Key Largo early today.

Sgt. Ralph Williams first saw the small black Audi northbound at 12:30 a.m., traveling at a high rate of speed estimated to be 90 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. He saw the car pass several vehicles in the center turn lane. He radioed ahead to other deputies, giving them a description of the vehicle. The car was spotted at the 102 mile marker by Deputies Vaughn O’Keefe and Derick Valez, traveling well over the speed limit and it was pulled over. The driver, 22 year old Robert Connell, was arrested for reckless driving. He later admitted he was going 115 mile per hour when he was stopped.

An inventory search of this car prior to it being towed revealed several different kinds of drugs, including marijuana, cocaine and Xanax. Connel was further charged with possessing those illegal substances and he was booked into jail.
