A Big Coppitt Key woman is in jail for beating another woman, sending her to the hospital with serious facial injuries.
The victim told Deputy Josh Gordon she’d been drinking with friends in Key West. She said the suspect, Jean Annis, was giving her a ride afterward in her Jeep when they began arguing. She said she and the Annis had a romantic relationship for nine months which had ended, but they’d remained friends.
She said they argued over text messages she’d received about another woman. The argument became physical, with Annis attacking her, punching and kicking her. She said the suspect was going to drop her at her mother’s house on 18th Street in Key West, but they continued to fight. She said Annis finally pushed her out of the moving Jeep.
The victim walked to her mother’s house. Her mother then took her to the hospital where they called the Sheriff’s office just before 2 a.m. She sustained broken bones in her face and hand, as well as other cuts and bruises. Some of the injuries will require surgery to repair.
Annis was found at her house on Big Coppitt Key where she was taken into custody for aggravated battery.
