Detectives investigating boat theft

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the theft of a 27 foot Contender boat on a trailer. The boat was taken from a storage yard in Islamorada over the weekend.

The 2000 27 foot Contender center console has twin 250 horsepower Yamaha four stroke engines on it. It was on a 2003 Continental trailer. They were taken from the business Fly Fishing, Incorporated at the 84.7 mile marker of the highway. The stolen items are valued at approximately $80,000.

An employee noticed the theft when he arrived on the property Sunday morning. A lock on one of the gates had been cut and a truck parked in front of the boat had been moved to give access to it. The boat belongs to the owner of the storage lot. He said he last saw it Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.

Detective Francisco Gaete has been assigned to investigate.
