A long-time Sheriff’s Office employee died this morning. Retired Sergeant Jim Wirth first came to work for the Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer in January of 1983. Just months later, he transferred to road patrol in Marathon. He worked as a detective in Marathon from November of 1986 until October of 1988 when he was promoted to sergeant. He transferred to Lower Keys road patrol in April of 1988, where he worked until his retirement in January of 2008.
His son, Detective Trevor Wirth, continues to work for the Sheriff’s Office. We would like to offer our sympathies and condolences to him, and to the rest of the Wirth family.
We will post information about services when they become available.
