A 13 year old Key Largo girl told Sheriff’s deputies she was followed Thursday by a man – a stranger - who pulled up to her in a car and told her to get in.
The girl told Deputy Ian Barnett she was walking southbound in the vicinity of the 106 mile marker of Highway U.S. One just after 5 p.m. Thursday when she noticed the tan colored four door sedan moving slowly northbound. She said she crossed the highway, and saw the car again, still driving slowly and stopping near her several times. She said she ran to her house, but no one was home. She said she saw the car stopped outside her house.
She left her house and decided to walk to a relative’s house nearby. The vehicle continued to follow her and this time approached her more closely. She said a man driving the car rolled down the window and told her several times to get in the car. She ran away and didn’t see the car again. The man who spoke to her from inside the car is described as a white Hispanic male, balding..
Detectives say the girl did the right thing by being so observant, by running away from the vehicle and by going to a nearby relative’s home and reporting the incident to police. Anyone who has any information about this incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 305-853-3211 or 305-289-2351.
