An Upper Keys road patrol squad spent time today stopping commercial vehicles in Key Largo to make sure they are complying with all laws and had appropriate safety equipment.
Sgt. Tom Kiffney and his patrol deputies stopped 27 commercial vehicles during a 90 minute period at the 104 mile marker of the highway. Of those vehicles stopped, 22 warnings were issued for defective equipment; two citations were written for defective equipment and five verbal warnings were given.
In addition to safety equipment, deputies checked all drivers licenses, insurance cards and all other required paperwork for such vehicles.
