Sheriff’s deputies took a man to jail on drug charges after responding to a disturbance early Sunday.
When they arrived at 5 a.m. they found George Johnson outside his house on Hibiscus Lane in Key Largo. They could see a woman inside the residence. While Deputy Pedro Garcia spoke with Johnson, Deputy Vaughn O’Keefe made contact with the woman who was inside.
The woman invited the deputies inside the house. When they entered they saw a pile of white powder suspected to be cocaine in the kitchen. Other evidence in the kitchen indicated someone was cooking the powdered cocaine to create crack cocaine. A pot on the stove contained a liquid with white powder floating in it; a glass bottle on the top of the refrigerator contained a clear crystal substance. All the suspicious substances were taken into custody and will be sent to a lab for analysis.
Johnson was confronted with the evidence of drugs and said another man was at his residence earlier cooking crack cocaine. He claimed the substances found in his home did not belong to him.
Johnson was arrested. He was charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
