Man injured in fight at Islamorada sandbar

A Key Largo man was taken to the hospital for facial injuries after he was involved in a fight at a popular gathering spot offshore of Islamorada known as “the sandbar”.

The 30 year old victim told Deputy Michael Claudy he was on his boat with his wife Sunday just after 7 p.m. He said another boat near his started its engines and sprayed water all over. He yelled at them to turn their engines off in case the boat accidentally went into gear. He said someone then hit his wife in the face, at which time a fight ensued.

He said a number of people in the area became involved in the fight.. He said he was hit numerous times in the face during the course of the fight.

The victim was taken to Mariner’s Hospital for treatment of numerous facial injuries, including two black eyes, a broken nose, cuts and a broken bone in his face.

Detectives will be investigating in an effort to discover who was involved in the incident.
