A Marathon man who lived on board a boat offshore of the City Marina in Marathon was found by friends, dead in the water near his boat Friday night.
His friends called the Sheriff’s Office after they pulled him from the water and began performing CPR at 11:20 p.m. They told Deputy Rosary Ponce the 64 year old victim had been drinking with them since the afternoon. One friend said she took him back to his boat at 10:30 p.m. and left him sitting on board, highly intoxicated. She said she and another friend went back to check on him about half an hour later and he wasn’t on the boat. That is when she saw him in the water. She pulled him onto the boat and started CPR and called for help.
Detective Manuel Cuervo from the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit responded and will be investigating the death. There were no obvious signs of foul play discovered. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of the victim’s death. The victim’s name is not being released because Detective Cuervo has not yet notified his family of his death.
