A 76 year old man from Amelia Island, Florida died while swimming at Fort Jefferson Tuesday morning.
According to Major Crimes Detective Lissette Zuelch, Guy Maddox was at the fort with his wife and a group of friends. They were swimming when he became unresponsive. A woman he was swimming with noticed his unresponsive state and pulled him in to shore where there were unsuccessful attempts made to revive him.
Detective Zuelch responded to the fort with the help of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. His body was brought back to Key West and an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of his death. At this time, there is no foul play suspected in his death.
