Possible scam: National Marine Sanctuary

I received this information about a potential scam from the National Marine Sanctuary. Please share it with your Facebook friends. See below:

Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary was notified through a Facebook message of a potential scam indicating that individuals (a group of 3 males) are going to local businesses and asking business owners to hire them to market/advertise the business. They say that the “fee” for this service covers their salary and that any remaining funds go directly to the Sanctuary.

The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary does not have staff soliciting financial support and cannot help market or recommend products from private companies and individuals. If you are approached by anyone stating that they represent the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and would like to verify their employment, please contact our offices in Key Largo at 305-852-7717 or Key West 305-809-4700.

If you are approached by anyone attempting this scam, please report it to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office using the non-emergency number, 305-289-2351.
