A 23 year old man from Miami Gardens was arrested in Key
Largo today for child abuse.
Tevin Gamble was driving southbound through the upper Keys
with the 7 month old baby in a car seat in the back and the baby’s mother in
the front passenger seat. The two adults had an argument which caused Gamble to
turn the car around, with the intention of returning home to Miami Gardens.
The mother called the Sheriff’s Office from the car to
report Gamble was driving recklessly northbound at a high rate of speed. She
told dispatchers he was turning off the car’s lights to avoid being seen by law
enforcement officers. Gamble finally pulled the car over to the side of the
road in a parking lot at the 97 mile marker of the highway. That is where
deputies met with the mother.
The mother said after stopping the car, Gamble tried to take
the baby and the car seat from the back of the car. She blocked his efforts.
She said he shook the car seat violently multiple times trying to free it from
the back seat. When he was unsuccessful,
Gamble finally fled from the car on foot.
Deputies apprehended him at the 102 mile marker. He had
changed his clothes in an effort to avoid capture.
Gamble was charged with child abuse and obstruction by
disguise. He was booked into jail. Paramedics checked the baby to make sure he
was not injured when he was shaken. He appeared to be fine.
