The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is expecting heavy
traffic on the weekend following the 4th of July holiday, particularly northbound
on Highway U.S. One on July 7th.
On the Memorial Day holiday weekend, we experienced a
severe traffic backup miles long due to the temporary construction light
installed on U.S. One at the entrance to Duck Key.
In an effort to avoid this happening again July 4th
weekend, the Sheriff’s Office will be manually controlling the intersection at
the entrance to Duck Key.
As officers control the light, the main priority will be
to maintain traffic flow along the highway. We anticipate this may cause a
significant delay of up to 20 minutes for vehicles exiting Duck Key.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may
cause, and ask that you plan ahead for these anticipated delays.
