Motorcyclist arrested for fleeing on U.S. 1

A 35-year-old Trinidad man was arrested Friday after reaching speeds of 117 mph in a 45 mph zone on U.S. 1.

Martin Quincy was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and possession of marijuana.

The Sheriff’s Office spotted the northbound motorcycle at approximately 8:30 a.m. illegally passing vehicles in the center turn lane at Mile Marker 10. The motorcyclist, later identified as Quincy, did not stop for Deputies. His speed fluctuated from 70 mph, but he reached 117 mph near Mile Marker 17. A Key West Police Officer who was also on U.S. 1 assisted by providing a partial license plate number. Quincy continued to pass vehicles illegally before he stopped near Mile Marker 31.

A small amount of marijuana was found in his backpack.

Quincy stated he was late for a flight and that was why he was speeding.

Quincy was taken to jail.
