A 36 year old Tavernier man was arrested early today,
charged with burglarizing a truck parked on Harry Davis Circle in Key Largo.
The owner of the truck told Deputy Cody Kerns he walked
outside his home at 5:20 a.m. today and saw a man later identified as 36 year
old Frank Guevara in the back of his truck. When he confronted Guevara, Guevara
jumped out of the truck with the victim’s toolbox and ran to a waiting vehicle –
a dark colored Mustang. The Mustang then fled the scene.
Deputy Kerns and other deputies searched the surrounding
area for the vehicle and found it parked on Hibiscus Lane. A man fitting the suspect’s
description was walking around near the car, which had two people waiting
inside of it.
The victim was brought to the Hibiscus Lane and positively
identified Guevara as the man who stole his toolbox from his truck. Guevara was
arrested and charged with vehicle burglary and grand theft. The toolbox has not
yet been located. A search of Guevara’s pockets turned up five Xanax pills, so
he was further charged with five counts possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into
jail.
