Two men arrested on drug charges

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit arrested two men on multiple drug counts Wednesday.

Detectives had outstanding warrants on file for 23 year old Jack Cantres so they went to his house on Avenue D, Big Coppitt Key to serve those warrants just before 4 p.m. When they arrived, they  first watched the house to see who was there. They saw 24 year old Harold Cantres loading something into a white Nissan in front of the residence. He also removed a duffel bag from the car and took it inside. While detectives continued to watch, a woman drove up in a Mercedes and entered the house. She then walked back out accompanied by Jack Cantres.

The detectives then approached the house. Jack Cantres spotted the detectives as they drove up and he walked rapidly into his house, where his brother was. The woman remained outside. The two men refused to open the door when detectives knocked and detectives could hear the two men moving around inside. They finally forced open the door. When they entered, they found a clogged toilet with marijuana floating on top of the water. Jack Cantres admitted to trying to flush the marijuana down the toilet. He told detectives the marijuana was combined with Spice.

A police K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs in both cars parked out front. A search of Harold Cantres vehicle turned up 95 grams of Heroin packaged in individual packages in the pocket of a red jacket. Over $3,000 in cash was found in Harold Cantres’ pants pocket. In the other car, detectives found a small amount of marijuana and 45 grams of what appeared to be Spice.

Jack Cantres was charged with resisting arrest and tampering with evidence. He was also charged with two outstanding warrants for possession of marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia within 1000 feet of a church and for possession of cocaine and marijuana. Harold Cantres was charged with trafficking in Heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both men were booked into jail. More charges may be pending in the case.
