Reminder about motorized vehicles on bicycle paths

Sheriff Rick Ramsay and particularly the Upper Keys command staff wants to remind all residents that motorized vehicles are not allowed on the bicycle path and Overseas Heritage Trial adjacent to U.S. 1.

These paths are intended for pedestrians and bicyclists.

This is the law.

Though this message is intended for all the Keys, we tend to see an uptick in this behavior in the Upper Keys where it often creates unsafe conditions.

Motorized vehicles such as golf carts create an unsafe environment for others.

According to Florida law, “a person may not drive any vehicle other than by human power upon a bicycle path, sidewalk or sidewalk area,” Note: the law does not apply to motorized wheelchairs.

Please be a good neighbor and keep motorized vehicles off these areas that are intended only for pedestrians and bicyclists. Help us spread the word!
