Man arrested for robbery and battery

A 28-year-old Marathon man was arrested Monday afternoon for stealing a woman’s sunglasses and chasing her with a shovel.

Harlan Eric Pettit was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon without intent to kill, robbery and battery.

Deputies Vincent Torres and Christopher Aguanno responded to the 300 block of 92nd Street at 3:38 p.m.. Deputy Aguanno met with a 29-year-old woman who stated she and the suspect, later identified as Pettit, had been arguing. She stated Pettit was spitting on her and kicking pea gravel at her. It was unclear what spurred the ruckus.

She stated Pettit came on her property and began pushing her before taking her Costa® sunglasses valued at $179. Pettit then went back to his house and returned with a shovel, whereupon he began chasing the woman around the property. Pettit eventually stopped and went back home.

The woman’s sunglasses were recovered from Pettit. He also admitted to taking a shovel to the woman’s residence.

Pettit was taken to jail.
