A 56-year-old Sugarloaf Key man was arrested Wednesday for
stealing tools from his neighbor and attempting to sell them to construction
workers.
John Karl Golden was charged with burglary, larceny and
dealing in stolen property.
Deputy William Guerra went to the 80 block of Palm Drive on
Sugarloaf Key at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday regarding a theft. He arrived and spoke to
the victim who stated that some construction workers doing work across the
street told him that his neighbor, identified as Golden, broke into his shed
under his house and attempted to sell them tools taken from the shed.
Deputy Guerra walked across the street and spoke to two
construction workers. Both stated a man identified as Golden approached them
with tools for sale. One worker stated he saw Golden go into the victim’s shed
and throw a pole saw and a couple of small tool boxes onto an empty lot next
door. Both construction workers stated they both declined to purchase the
tools.
Golden then walked up to Deputy Guerra. Golden stated he
knows his neighbor (the victim) and admitted to stealing his tools.
The tools were returned to the victim.
Golden was taken to jail.
