Man arrested for assault

A 53-year-old Duck Key man was arrested Thursday for threatening a couple with a tire iron or pipe.

Bruce Barton Coles was charged with aggravated assault.

A couple in their 60s were standing on the Truman Bridge on Duck Key on Oct. 20, 2019 when a man — later identified as Coles — approached on a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. The motorcycle passed them very close. The male victim threw his hands up in the air, in which to say, “Why did you do that?”

A short time later, Coles returned, got off the motorcycle while holding a tire iron or pipe. He began to swing the pipe at the couple, who fled in fear. The couple stopped a passing motorist and called 911.

Detective Leon Bourcier viewed security camera footage of the incident. The footage corroborated the couples’ version of events.

A warrant was issued for Coles’ arrest.

Coles was booked into jail Thursday.
