A 42-year-old Lafayette, Indiana man was arrested Friday
following an investigation into a stolen handgun that was pawned in Key Largo.
Jason Michael Wilhelm as charged with possession of a weapon
by a convicted felon, dealing in stolen property, fraud and failure to register
as a convicted felon in Monroe County.
The Sheriff’s Office worked alongside law enforcement
partners in Indiana and Tennessee on the case, which began when the Sheriff’s
Office was informed that a gun reported stolen out of Tennessee and likely
pawned in the Florida Keys.
A pawn shop in Key Largo provided the gun and employees
there identified Wilhelm from a photo lineup as the person who pawned the
.380-caliber pistol.
Wilhelm has a criminal history ranging from drug possession
to fraud and battery.
Wilhelm was arrested Friday after warrants were issued for
his arrest.
