Man arrested in hit and run case

A Key Largo motorist was arrested Tuesday night after hitting another moving vehicle and fleeing from a Deputy.

Terry Norman Tromanhauser, 66, was charged with hit and run, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, DUI and reckless driving causing property damage.

Deputy Jason Farr saw a northbound Ford pickup truck traveling 68 mph in a 45 mph zone at 9:54 p.m. at Mile Marker 106 on U.S. 1. Deputy Farr activated his lights and sirens and attempted to make a traffic stop. Deputy Farr observed the Ford strike a Hyundai passenger car on U.S. 1 and continue northbound. The crash caused several thousands of dollars in damage to the Hyundai. The driver of the Hyundai was from Kentucky. There were no reported injuries.

The Ford truck failed to stop for Deputy Farr before it finally turned off the highway and stopped at the Anchorage Resort & Yacht Club.

Deputy Farr ordered the driver, later identified as Tromanhauser, out of the truck. Tromanhauser crawled to the passenger side the truck and then was detained as he exited the passenger side. A U.S. Border Patrol agent assisted Deputy Farr.

Tromanhauser admitted to hitting the other vehicle on U.S. 1 and not stopping.

Tromanhauser had a blood alcohol level of .186. The legal limit in Florida is .08.

Tromanhauser was booked into jail.
