A 22-year-old Miami man was given a mandatory notice to
appear in court citation early Friday morning for possessing and undersized
mangrove snapper.
Dairon Muina Alfonso was fishing at Indian Key Fill in
Islamorada at 2:38 a.m. when he was approached by Deputy Ana Coello.
Muina Alfonso told Deputy Coello he did not have a fishing
license. Muina Alfonso did not have a measuring device.
Muina Alfonso had several fish, including one nine-inch
mangrove snapper. The legal harvesting size for mangrove snapper is 10 inches.
Muina Alfonso was cited and the undersized fish was returned
to the water dead.
