A 73-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning for
possessing 31 undersized Mangrove Snappers.
George Singh of Ontario, Canada was charged with 31 counts
of possession of undersized Mangrove Snapper and 27 counts of possession of
over-the-bag-limit Mangrove Snapper.
Upper Keys Deputy Ana Coello was on patrol at the Whale
Harbor Bridge in Islamorada about 3 a.m. when she conducted a wildlife resource
check.
The angler, identified as Singh, stated all the fish he caught
were in a bucket.
He did not have a measuring device.
There were 32 Mangrove Snapper in the bucket.
All but one were under the legal size limit of 10 inches.
The smallest fish measured 5.5 inches and the largest
undersized fish measured 9 inches.
All the fish were returned to the water dead.
The bag limit for Mangrove Snapper is 5 per harvester.
Singh was taken to jail.
