A 48-year-old Key Largo woman was arrested Thursday night
after fleeing from a Deputy.
Virginia Renae Blake was charged with fleeing and eluding
and DUI.
Deputy Joel Torres received a be-on-the-lookout alert at 10
p.m. for a reckless Jeep Wrangler that almost hit another vehicle. Deputy
Torres saw the Jeep at Mile Marker 102. Deputy Torres observed the Jeep weaving
wildly across both northbound lanes of U.S. 1. Deputy Torres observed the Jeep
nearly hit trees in the highway median. Deputy Torres activated his emergency
lights and siren. The Jeep did not stop, eventually making a wide U-Turn while
taking up both southbound lanes.
The Jeep made a wide-radius right turn onto Canal Street,
nearly striking a stop sign. Deputy Torres ordered the driver of the Jeep to
stop three times over his patrol car loudspeaker, but the Jeep did not stop. The
Jeep continued to weave, driving onto the shoulder multiple times. The Jeep
turned right, northbound on Boyd Drive. It continued to weave. It then turned
on Belmont Lane where it stopped at the driver’s residence. The driver was
later identified as Blake. There were no passengers in the Jeep.
Blake was detained. Deputy Torres noted there was an
overpowering odor of alcohol coming from Blake.
Blake failed field sobriety tests.
Blake was taken to jail.
