Man cited for undersized Mangrove Snapper

A 28-year-old Miami man was cited Monday night for illegally harvesting three Mangrove Snappers while fishing at Tavernier Creek Bridge.

Terell Jermaine Stephenson was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation for possession of three undersized Mangrove Snappers.

Deputy Ana Coello was on patrol when she saw Stephenson at the bridge and asked if he caught any fish. Stephenson answered in the affirmative, but added he didn’t know what kind of fish or what the legal size limit was. Nor did he have a measuring device in his possession. He stated he believed the fish may be Mangrove Snappers.

Deputy Coello found five Mangrove Snapper in his cooler.

One measured 8.5 inches and two measured 9 inches.

The legal size limit is 10 inches. The bag limit is five per day per angler.

The fish were returned to the water dead.
