Package of suspected marijuana found in Key Largo mangrove

A man and woman found a package of what appeared to be marijuana while they were digging a hole on the 30 block of South Exuma Road in Key Largo Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy Casey Matthews responded to the residence about 1 p.m. after the pair called the Sheriff’s Office to report finding the suspicious package resting on a mangrove root.

Deputy Matthews noted the contents appeared to be marijuana.

The package was turned over to Border Patrol agents.

Federal agents will determine the contents and its weight.

The Sheriff’s Office had no further involvement.
