A 56-year-old Fort Lauderdale, Florida man was arrested
Wednesday afternoon after a traffic stop whereupon he was found to be in
illegal possession of a revolver.
Grover Barrington Earle was charged with possession of a
weapon by a convicted felon. Earle was also cited for speeding.
Traffic Enforcement Unit Deputy Lance Hernandez was
conducting radar operations at 1:30 p.m. at Mile Marker 104 when he clocked a
northbound Oldsmobile traveling 70 mph in a 45 mph zone. Deputy Hernandez
stopped the car.
Deputy Hernandez told the driver, identified as Earle, that
he could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the car. Earle stated there
were two marijuana cigarettes in the car. Deputy Hernandez asked Earle to step
out of the car. Deputy Hernandez found two marijuana cigarettes in an orange
pill container.
Deputy Dyllon Hansen arrived on scene.
Deputy Hernandez searched the remainder of the vehicle and
found a loaded Smith & Wesson .357 revolver under the passenger seat.
Deputy Hernandez asked Earle if he was a convicted felon.
Earle answered in the affirmative.
Earle was taken to jail.
