Asphalt spill closed U.S. 1 at Stock Island Bridge

A work truck from an out-of-town construction contractor spilled ground-up asphalt on the Boca Chica Bridge about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The spillage closed most northbound traffic on the bridge for approximately two hours, backing up traffic on Stock Island.

There were no reported injuries in the incident.

Initial reports that the spillage was cement were incorrect.
