A 52-year-old Bay Point man was arrested Saturday night
after pointing a handgun at a neighbor.
Stephen Louis Meredith was charged with aggravated assault
with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, illegal display or use of a firearm
and burglary.
There were no reported injuries.
Multiple Deputies responded to the 20 block of Palm Drive in
the Bay Point neighborhood at approximately 7:30 p.m. regarding a reported
burglary in progress. They arrived to find the 26-year-old victim, the victim’s
6-year-old son and another 26-year-old house guest at the residence. The victim
stated he, his son and the guest were playing music and watching football
with the front door open. The victim, the juvenile and the guest all
stated that an intruder, later identified as Meredith, walked into the
residence, complained about noise levels, and lifted his shirt to expose a
silver revolver — a Ruger revolver.
The victim retreated to a bedroom, Meredith pulled the
revolver from his waistband, pointed it at the victim and stated that he
should, “blow his brains out.” Meredith left the residence shortly thereafter.
Meredith emerged from a neighboring home while Deputies were
on the scene. He was identified by the victim as the intruder. Meredith admitted
to entering the victim’s residence without permission while possessing a
firearm and to displaying the firearm inside the residence. Meredith told
Deputies he went to the residence due to the noise being emitted, which made it
difficult for him to hear the football game commentary on his television.
The loaded firearm was secured and placed into evidence.
Meredith was taken to jail.
