Sheriff’s Office acquires credit card skimmer detection devices

Sheriff Rick Ramsay and the Sheriff’s Office has acquired new technology that can check credit card devices at gas pumps to see if illegal skimming devices have been installed.

The new electronic devices have been added to the crime fighting tool belt for Deputies and Detectives from Key West to Key Largo.

Law enforcement countrywide have an increase in the use of these illegal skimming devices as a way to steal people’s credit card/debit card information.

Though we thankfully have not seen a proliferation of this activity in the Florida Keys, the new devices are part of Sheriff’s Ramsay’s commitment to staying a step ahead of criminals who target Keys residents and visitors.

The devices can be used to check any machine that accepts credit cards, not just gas pumps.
